20 years of Team Turbos – celebration BBQ

Today we celebrated the founding of North Dorset Turbos Swimming Club 20 years ago with a BBQ and fun and games in the glorious sunshine. Around 100 current and former swimmers, coaches, committee members and their families came together to mark the occasion. As well as fun in the pool, a bit of volleyball and tug-of-war we heard stories from the early days when Chris Gassmann and Sally Muir started what was first called Gillingham Swimming Club. We were especially honored that Dorset County ASA President Gail Nuttall joined us, and brought chocolate for our swimmers!

Thanks everyone for making the day such a success! Go Turbos

Congratulations to our South West Regional Qualifiers

This year we very proud of Tom, Freddie, Toby B, Toby C, Antonia and Katie who have all qualified for the South West Regional Championships happening this month. This is a huge achievement for them all as individual swimmers, and also for us as a small Club to have so many qualifiers is excellent.

Huge Congrats to them all and best of luck with your swims

Record year for Turbos at Dorset County Championships

January saw the 2023 Dorset County Championships which took place at Littledown in Bournemouth and it was a record year for our club with 15 swimmer’s qualify for 97 heats (swims). One swimmer was unable to attend so in total 14 of our swimmers, from all three of our squads (Performance, Development and Pre-Turbos) took part in 96 races.

All the swimmers did excellently well, in total making 28 finals and 6 reserve finalists. 72 swims were personal bests (PBs) which is a brilliant rate. Our top male swimmer in the Counties this year was Freddie with 8 finals and out top female swimmer was Antonia with 6 finals. In total our swimmers secured 6 medals (for a top three place).

Really excellent work everyone and the whole club is very proud of you.

Lots of medals at recent galas for TeamTurbos

October has seen swimmers take part in a few galas, and achieving many PBs and medals.

On the first weekend of October 2022, 16 Turbos swimmers took part in races during all four sessions. They achieved an incredible haul of 28 medals between them – 8 Gold, 12 Silver and 8 Bronze – and a total of 50 PBs were recorded, Excellent work all round, and Head Coach Rich was especially proud of the team camaraderie.

As a team we did really well at Bridport in the Challenge Cup Gala on 15th October against clubs from Devon, Somerset and Dorset, coming a close second which is excellent for our small club. Many of our swimmers were competing for the first time, so a special congratulations to them.

Ten of our swimmers also took part in 43 races at Dorchester over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd October. 24 of these resulted in PBs and they achieved 18 medals – 7 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze.
